Frequently Asked Questions – Cat Care in Dubai

How often should my cat have a vet check-up?

We recommend a full check-up once a year, or every 6 months for senior cats. This allows us to catch early signs of issues like arthritis, dental disease, or internal organ problems — even if your cat seems healthy at home.

What vaccines does my cat need in Dubai?

Core cat vaccines include protection against:

  • Feline panleukopenia (FPV)
  • Feline herpesvirus (FHV)
  • Feline calicivirus (FCV)
  • Rabies (mandatory in the UAE)

Depending on lifestyle, your cat may also need protection against feline leukaemia virus (FeLV). Our team will create a schedule that suits your cat’s needs.

When should I neuter my cat?

We typically recommend neutering at around 5–6 months of age. Spaying or castration not only prevents unwanted pregnancies, but also reduces the risk of reproductive disease and improves behaviour. Our surgical team will walk you through the process from start to finish.

What are the signs of dental problems in cats?

Cats are very good at masking pain, but warning signs include:

  • Bad breath
  • Dropping food or chewing oddly
  • Pawing at the face
  • Visible plaque or swollen gums

If you notice any of these, book a dental exam at British Veterinary Hospital Dubai.

Does my indoor cat really need flea and worming treatments?

Yes. Even indoor cats can get fleas, ticks, or worms from other pets, human shoes, or contaminated surfaces. Regular flea and worming treatment for cats is important to avoid infestations and health complications.

Can I bring my cat in for something not listed here?

Yes — whether it’s skin irritation, changes in behaviour, or a sudden loss of appetite, our team is here to help. Contact British Veterinary Hospital Dubai to book a consultation or emergency appointment.
